What would you do to deal with "Globalization"? in 10 or more years?

Globalization

Before we start, let us know what globalization is. Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world. And Martin Albrow made it easier for us to understand by his statement that Globalisation refers to all those processes by which the peoples of the world are incorporated into a single world society, global society. From that statement we understand that Globalization is an assimilation which happened in this world.

However, generally it is the process of globalizing products, businesses, technologies, philosophies, etc all through the world. One of the best example of Globalization is Mcdonald’s Fast-food restaurant, i am sure 90% of humans living on this earth does know what Mcdonald’s is. McDonald's is an American fast food company, founded in 1940 as a restaurant operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald, in San Bernardino, California, United States. And now, almost every country in this world has McDonald’s. How can Mcdonald’s spread it’s stores all over the world? Well first it’s  because their good marketing by adapting local menus in different countries to their original menus and their advertisements in small or big events such as the world cup, olympics, etc. The second reason is Globalization. Yes, Globalization.

Globalization actually affects a lot of things in our life such as economics, culture and lifestyle, technology, psychology, etc. Before we discuss about what  should we attempt to withstand Globalization in economic aspect, we should know what impact globalization did in economic aspect to the world. The goal of globalization in economics is to provide organizations a superior competitive position with lower operating costs, to gain greater numbers of products, services and consumers. Sporting goods producer companies such as Nike and Adidas is a good example of this, they are spreading their factories all over the world to reduce their manufacturing fee such as labor costs and expensive license to build a factory. They spread advertisement, trends and new fashion cultures to affect the world to buy their products. One of their best weapon is technology, such as social media including instagram, facebook, twitter and of course, hastags. From hastags (#) in social media, Nike and Adidas intoxicated consumers all over the world to buy their products and increased their earnings in a massive number. I didn’t want to explain about how Nike and Adidas gain their fame, but here iwant to relate their journey as a reference to find solutions to withstand Globalization in economics aspect as an Indonesian. As an Indonesian, i didn’t say that we shouldn’t buy foreign products but, how nice it would be if we support our local factories to produce and export their products to foreign countries by consuming local products. One of their favorite strategy of marketing is “Your appearance defines who you are”. In my opinion, that mindset will only kill us slowly by developing hedonism in our minds. By that we should aware for our own good, as an example,what if we actually get eaten by their ads, we would buy lots of unnecessary products to fullfillour hedonism pleasure. Eventually, we will get broke in no time. In conclusion, be a smart person to filter out what’s good and bad for our life.

Lets move to our next topic, Globalization in cultural aspects. As an Indonesian, i do love Indonesian cultures such as batik, kebaya, traditonal dance, traditional houses, etc. In here i would like to share my thoughts to defend our pure culture in Global era. Globalization has made changes to our lifestyle and fashion culture as an Indonesian. Our ancestors used to wear batik as a daily outfit in their lifes, but now what we wear as a daily outfit is western-related fashion taste which sometimes controvert with our eastern manners such as inappropriate outfits. In Indonesia, wearing those is still uncommon and only going to raise attention. But slowly but sure, that fashion culture is going to take over our local fashion culture like batik. A good solution for this is to start inviting people to wear batik and globalize batik by technologies and other media. In my vision, batik will slowly disappear and will be replaced by new trends, in that case we need to think critically to see what makes people less likely to wear batik. We need to mix and match batik with other type of fashion to make a new distinctive style.

Globalizations in technology aspects gives us easier way to communicate with each other in our life. Gadgets such as laptops, cellphones, tablets are some of our most used technology in our life. However, there are also bad influences that globalization in technology aspect give to us. People tend to life individually and have less communication with each other even though social media were meant to help us communicate with our friends and relatives. People tend to lack of balance in communicating with people around them and people in a far location from them. Sometimes they forget to talk with people around them and started chatting with other people in their own mobilephones. Besides communication, Globalization also affect technologies in fashion and other things such as 4D printed sneakers by Adidas, and in 10 or more years maybe there will be improvements like hovering cars or other things. All we need is just creativity, just imagine it, and try to achieve it.

After all examples and descriptions above, we finally jump into the final conclusion. Globalization won’t stop and can’t be stopped. In that case, we should start to think critically, wisely and creatively. From our critical thinking we should know what’s good and bad for our lifes. Critical and creative thinking isn’t enough to withstand Globalization nowdays, we also have to keep moving in order to catch up with Globalization by building a good work ethic and an extraordinary spirit to be the best. I personally say that Globalization is a battlefield in modern day, we all compete to be the best and to be the best we should have a good preparation to achieve our goals. In this global world not all people will do good things to us, they tend to be selfish and only think of their own condition. In that case, we should be aware that if we don’t start now, we will die slowly by Globalization and eventually get broke. In 10 or 20 more years this world won’t be the world we know today. There will be a lot of improvements from any aspects of life. The only thing that we can protect from getting extinct is only attitude. We should protect our well-behaving attitude in order to withstand Globalization. Globalization sure does give us a lot of improvements but we also got to stay aware of Globalization's bad influence.
